L’apparecchio Maxillary Skeletal Expander (MSE) è un tipo particolare di Espansore Palatale Rapido Assistito da Miniviti (MARPE), in grado di produrre una notevole espansione scheletrica del mascellare e del terzo medio del viso in pazienti di ogni età.

Indicato nel trattamento dei morsi crociati laterali, delle malocclusioni di Classe III, l’MSE è inoltre in grado di migliorare il flusso aereo e la respirazione. Recenti pubblicazioni mostrano effetti favorevoli anche nella terapia della sindrome delle apnee ostruttive nel sonno (OSAS).

Vantaggi dell’apparecchio MSE

Prof. Won Moon, Ideatore dell’MSE

Won MoonIl Prof. Won Moon è il fondatore del «Moon Principles Institute» («the Moon Lab») ed è socio fondatore di BioTech Innovations. E’ professsore presso il Forsyth Institute a Cambridge (USA) e presso la Ajou University a Seoul (Korea). E’ stato Direttore della Scuola di Specializzazione di Ortodonzia dell’Università di California di Los Angeles (UCLA) dal 2013 al 2020.

Si è laureato in Odontoiatria presso la Harvard University e si è quindi specializzato in Ortodonzia presso l’UCLA; è diplomato all’Accademia Americana di Ortodonzia (AAO) dal 2002.

Le sue attività di ricerca includono 1) l’analisi degli elementi finiti (FEM) delle strutture oro-facciali 2) l’ancoraggio scheletrico nelle correzioni ortopediche del viso 3) l’analisi morfologica 3D delle strutture scheletriche e dei tessuti molli facciali 4) il movimento accelerato dei denti 5) la creazione del paziente virtuale digitale 6) le applicazioni della stampa 3D in ortodonzia 7) la ricerca clinica ortodontica 8) la biomeccanica degli allineatori.

I suoi interessi riguardo l’espansione del terzo medio del viso sono iniziati nel 2004, quando ha sviluppato l’espansore mascellare scheletrico (MSE), un particolare tipo di espansore supportato da miniviti (MARPE). Il Prof. Moon impiega da tempo l’espansione scheletrica non chirurgica supportata da miniviti palatali nei pazienti in crescita e negli adulti, soprattutto per i pazienti che soffrono di ostruzioni croniche delle vie aeree superiori. Il Prof. Moon è relatore su argomenti di ancoraggio scheletrico, ortopedia dento-facciale e terapia con MSE in numerosi congressi internazionali, e autore di numerose pubblicazioni. Il Prof. Moon ha ampliato i confini dell’ortodonzia convenzionale, promuovendo l’eccellenza nella terapia del paziente tramite l’utilizzo di tecnologie innovative.
